  • How do I put someone up for child support?

There are three (3) ways to put up someone for child support:
    1. Seek an attorney. He or she can file the necessary paperwork.
    2. Ask Family Court for the necessary paperwork to file your child support case.
    3. Go through South Carolina Department of Social Services. The application can be picked up at Family Court.
  • How long do I have to pay child support?

Child Support terminates when the child turns eighteen (18), graduates from high school, or the last day of the school year when the child turns nineteen (19) after the date of the appropriate event, unless otherwise stipulated in the Court order.

To terminate the child support, you or the other parent must bring a copy of the child's birth certificate and proof of graduations to Family Court and sign the necessary paperwork.
