The Fort Lawn Community Center will be hosting the annual 4th of July Celebration. Over the past two years, this event has turned into quite the 4th of July Celebration! Continuing to focus on a “Small Town” theme, we will again have hot dogs, hamburgers, watermelons, tea, and lemonade available for folks to enjoy while listening to bands, enjoying the patriotic program, watching (and hearing) the discharge of the Chester Gun, and ending the evening with an extraordinary fireworks display.

Last year, our grounds were packed, Main Street was filled with folks seated in chairs, laying on blankets, and standing around, local parking lots were full, and cars were parked in and beside Hwy. 9. Needless to say, we were thrilled with the significant turnout and the positive reviews! We had no idea that folks from Chester, Lancaster, York, Fairfield, Kershaw, Horry, Chesterfield, and Union counties would come out in such force. We were even more surprised to have folks from so many other states attend our event in Fort Lawn!

Flopeye Fish Festival

The Flopeye Fish Festival is held each year in Great Falls and is Chester County’s longest running festival. The family-oriented festival traditionally brings thousands of visitors to the Catawba River town. Activities include fun for all ages with a street dance, entertainment, car show, carnival, roving entertainers, arts, crafts and food vendors. Food vendors include a large variety of foods, including fish. Local clubs and organizations participate, as well as vendors from all over the Southeast.

The City of Chester sponsors the Hilarity Festival each year on the third weekend of October.. The festival on the hill in the center of town offers a multi-cultural experience that involves all segments of the community. There is musical entertainment of all varieties, roving entertainers, food and craft vendors and other activities for children and adults.

Parades

The parade season begins in January, with a parade honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during a weekend celebration of the civil rights leader’s life.

The Christmas season is crowded with parades beginning with Great Fall's parade which is around Thanksgiving and is the first of the season.  Parades are held in Fort Lawn, Richburg, Chester and the last parade of the Christmas season is generally the Old Fashioned Christmas Parade in Lowrys. It features horses and farm tractors, many of the antiques still in working order.
